Where We’re Going: Autumn Edition
Autumn is the season Adelaide shows off. The golden light, the slower pace, the crisp scent of eucalyptus in the Hills, it’s the perfect time to lean into layered outfits, long drives, and cosy afternoons. Here are five places we’re heading this season:
1. Hans Heysen – The Cedars, Hahndorf
A must-visit in autumn. The gum trees that inspired Heysen’s iconic work are glowing in full force, and his original studio still hums with creative energy. Stroll the gardens, explore the gallery space, and stop by the new café for something sweet before continuing through Hahndorf’s quieter, leaf-covered streets.
2. Mt Lofty Botanic Garden
For golden hour picnics, film photoshoots, or just a solo recharge. This place is pure autumn magic. Go mid-morning for the mist, or late afternoon for that low amber light filtering through the trees. Don’t forget warm drinks in a thermos, and good shoes for the hill paths.
3. Aldinga + Lunch at Pearl
There’s something cinematic about the coast in autumn. Less crowds, more mood. Start with a beach walk wrapped in a chunky knit, then head to Pearl for a seasonal lunch overlooking the water, think roasted leeks, fresh local seafood, and a glass of white that suits the breeze.
4. Stirling + Patch Kitchen & Garden
Nothing says autumn like Stirling. Tree-lined streets, weekend markets, crunchy leaves underfoot. We’re heading up for a slow brunch at Patch, followed by a wander through the Stirling main street and maybe a bookshop browse while you’re there.
5. Carrick Hill Gardens + Wattle Park Drive
Carrick Hill feels like a European estate in the right light. Its sculpture-dotted gardens, hedges, and old stone charm are ideal for a quiet stroll with someone you love (or solo, with headphones and good tunes). Take the scenic route home through Wattle Park for the ultimate foliage fix.
